Moody State Representative

Welcome, and thank you for visiting Moody For El Paso.

Joseph "Joe" Moody is a lifelong El Pasoan, and a second generation public servant. His father, District Judge William Moody and his mother, Magdalena Morales-Moody, an El Paso school teacher instilled in Joe the value of community service and respect for the laws of Texas.

Joe Moody served during the 81st Legislative Session in Austin as State Representative. During that session, Joe was able to work effectively for El Paso. Joe requested and was assigned by Speaker Joe Straus to two committees that allowed him to help keep our communities and all of Texas safe. He served on the Criminal Jurisprudence Committee, and the Committee on Border and Intergovernmental Affairs. The Criminal Jurisprudence Committee heard proposed changes to the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure and Border and Intergovernmental Affairs addressed immigration issues and border security.

During the 81^st Legislative Session, Moody passed legislation to help keep communities safer from gang violence, give property tax relief to our disabled veterans, and help fund local domestic violence centers across Texas. Moody was also awarded Freshman of the Year by two non-partisan groups, The Mexican American Legislative Caucus, and the Texas District and County Attorneys Association.

Joe’s life-long work with families and organizations in his community inspired him to run for office so he could better serve El Pasoans.  During his term in Austin, Moody served as the youngest legislator in the State of Texas.
